Pentax K100D

December 2006—present
Although the Optio MX was great, it felt more like a gadget than a serious camera, but I was finally able to get a digital SLR. I use it with:

  • Focal MC 2X Converter
  • Pentax smc A 50mm f/2.0
  • Pentax smc DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
  • Sigma AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro
  • Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro
  • Vivitar 80-200mm f/4.5
  • Sunpak Super 383 Flash

Pentax Optio MX

January 2005—present
A great 3.2-megapixel point & shoot camera with full manual controls and an optical zoom range of 38-380mm (35mm equivalent), and it fits in my pocket. I bought this to replace my Nikon CoolPix, and since it is digital, fits in my pocket and has such a long lens, I also stopped using the K1000.

Nikon CoolPix 3100

December 2003—January 2005
My first quality digital camera: a nice, small 3.2-megapixel point & shoot camera that takes good pictures, but lacks many manual controls, the ability to take movies with sound, and an appreciable zoom. Since the quality of the pictures was so high with this camera, I stopped using my Nikon 35mm point & shoot, but continued using the K1000 when I wanted a long focal length.

SiPix SC2100

December 2001—December 2003
My first digital camera: a cheap 2.1-megapixel point & shoot camera that took low-contrast images. I used it long after I should have replaced it, and eventually I kept it running with an impromptu repair involving cardboard, aluminum foil, and tape. I only used it when I didn't want to use up film; I often carried it and my 35mm point & shoot camera simultaneously.

Nikon One Touch Zoom 90 QD

Fall 2000—December 2003
A point & shoot 35mm camera that took quality pictures and featured 3× zoom. I bought it to replace my Minolta when its flash died.

Pentax K1000

2000—January 2005
My dad's camera from the early 80s: a completely manual 35mm SLR that was easy to use and very sturdy and reliable. I used it with a Pentax 50mm prime lens and a Vivitar 80-200mm zoom lens, and I mainly used it airshows and other situations when the zoom lens was useful.

Minolta AF101R

December 1996—Fall 2000
I got this 35mm point & shoot camera for Christmas in 5th grade, and I used it until the flash stopped working.
